NGE, a well-established geotechnical engineering consulting firm has an opening for a staff engineer. The candidate for our staff engineer position must have their own transportation to our office in St. Albans WV. A background check will be performed. Random drug testing is a required condition of employment.
Staff Engineer Job Responsibilities:
- Direct support of engineers and geologists
- Work closely with senior-level project manager and Professional Engineer of Record to gain project management and engineering experience
- Analyze data, and perform engineering calculations and analysis for PE review
- Soils lab testing (Atterberg limits, direct shear testing, standard Procter moisture-density, hydrometer, etc.)
- Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports
- Report review and writing
- Interacts with client and project team in developing scope of services and communicating project progress
- Works under the supervision of a Professional Engineer
- AutoCAD
- Site engineering reconnaissance to locate existing landslides, springs, and other geological hazards
- Field observation and logging of test borings and test pit excavations
- Field construction inspection work to include concrete testing and compaction testing
- Occasional work in the field with drilling staff.
- Occasional travel and overnight stays (vehicle, meals, and lodging are provided)
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology
- Engineering Intern (EI) Certification preferred
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Must be drug-free
- Must be available to work in all types of indoor and outdoor environments
- AutoCAD classes (AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred)
Benefits:
The candidate will be eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits. Currently, the candidate is responsible for 30% of the premium cost, which will be deducted pre-tax from paychecks. This percentage is reviewed annually at open enrollment and is subject to change. NGE covers the deductible for employees. Additionally, NGE will provide short-term and long-term disability insurance and basic life insurance ($50,000) at no cost to the employee. Supplemental life insurance is available to employees at their expense. The candidate may participate in NGE’s 401(k) program. NGE will incur expenses for unemployment compensation and workers’ compensation. The candidate will have fifteen PTO days (3 weeks) and eight paid holidays per calendar year.
Medical, dental, and vision benefits become effective the first day of the month following the date of employment. Life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability become effective the first day of the month following the date of employment.
