Charleroi Locks and Dam USACE Project

Charleroi Locks and Dam USACE Project

NGE provided Concrete Production Managers and Concrete Quality Control Technicians for the Charleroi Locks and Dam USACE Project in Monessen, Pennsylvania, for over 10 years throughout this project.

The Concrete Production Manager was responsible for supervising the entire plant staff and starting up, operating, maintaining, and shutting down the batch plant and conveyor system. The Concrete Production Manager would supervise the Batch Plant’s day-to-day plant preparation, production, maintenance, repairs, and quality control activities. Daily logbook entries were required to document this role and all requests other than normal operations.

The full-time Concrete Quality Control Technician served as part of the Batch Plant staff and assisted with the batch plant and conveyor system initial startup. The Concrete Quality Control Technician’s primary duties included aggregate sampling and testing, concrete testing, making concrete test cylinders, curing and breaking cylinders, maintenance of aggregate and concrete quality control records and data logger readings.

On concrete production days, two additional Concrete Quality Control Technicians were on site, one stationed at the batch plant and the other at the point of placement.  During concrete pours, NGE had a total of three technicians on-site to conduct concrete testing as it was poured.
