Marlowe Overpass Bridges

NGE performed the subsurface investigation and geotechnical engineering for two replacement bridges carrying I-81 over US 11 in Berkeley County, West Virginia.  NGE designed the subsurface investigation program.  We retained a drilling company to drill 16 test borings and supervised the field work. Once the testing was complete we conducted the geotechnical laboratory testing in-house. Detailed bridge foundation calculations were performed to determine the factored resistance of the bearing materials.  Foundation studies evaluated spread foundations, piles and drilled shafts to support the replacement bridges.  A final soils report was prepared for the project presenting the surface data, geotechnical analysis, foundation recommendations and geologic cross-sections.
